MD Consult Partners with American Academy of Family Physicians

  • 8 October 2001

MD Consult, the US online clinical information service for physicians, has formed a new alliance with the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) to make its information and education resources available online.

Under the agreement, users of the MD Consult service will gain access to full-text articles from the AAFP’s range of family medicine journals, and the 52,500 AAFP physician members can take advantage of special reduced subscription rates for MD Consult.

According to MDConsult, the partnership provides MD Consult’s 240,000 subscribers with access to AAFP publications. In addition, dynamic links on the AAFP’s official Web site allow subscribing AAFP members to directly access MD Consult and seamlessly navigate between the sites.

MD Consult subscribers now have access to the full-text articles of: “American Family Physician,” the clinical journal for primary care physicians, and "Family Practice Management," a publication that covers practice management and socio-economic aspects of family medicine. MD Consult already offers access to more than 50 medical journals.

A number of the AAFP’s clinical practice guidelines are also available on MD Consult, providing physicians with recommendations for the management of specific medical conditions related to primary care medicine. In addition, the AAFP’s collection of 300 Patient Education Handouts, will be made available through MD Consult.

"By making our premiere publications, clinical practice guidelines and patient education handouts available via MD Consult, we are able to inform family physicians and other medical specialists of up-to-the-minute practices and procedures," said Richard Roberts M.D., president of the AAFP.

"Both the AAFP and MD Consult’s Core Collection service are focused on the needs of primary care physicians, striving to provide practitioners with the in-depth clinical information the specialty requires" added Stephanie Manning, publisher of MD Consult.
