Patients get cybercafe with teleconferencing info link
- 31 August 2004
Patients in Castle Hill Hospital, Cottingham, East Yorkshire are now able to access online details about waiting times for their operations and speak online to advisors thanks to a new installation of a hospital cyber café and the Government’s Citizenlink project. The project, funded by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, links people with the patient advice and liaison service (PALS), as well as giving general online access to the council. A video-conferencing desk has been set up at the hospital where patients can get advice. Malcolm Sims, head of support and customer service development at East Riding of Yorkshire Council said: “This is a ground breaking partnership developed with Hull and East Yorkshire NHS Trust and will be the first of its kind in the country extending access for residents, patients, visitors and employees to over 500 council and partner services in the East Riding and Hull through video conferencing." “I am delighted to be involved in this leading-edge initiative and look forward to the roll-out at Hull Royal Infirmary and Princess Royal Hospital." Martin Ward, client systems manager at Hull & East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, added: "The IT Services Department at Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals are pleased to have the opportunity to work with the East Riding of Yorkshire Council to deliver a 21st century solution that will benefit all citizens using the trusts’ facilities. “This project has provided the opportunity for integrated IT systems to enable better public access to information across health and the local authority."
