  • 9 May 2007

Healthcare IT systems specialist McKesson, has acquired Supporta Payroll Services in a deal that will allow the company to provide bureau services to new and existing clients to complement its existing HR and payroll capabilities.

The new unit, to be known as McKesson HR and Payroll Solutions will build upon the existing shared NHS customer base using the McKesson ESR (Electronic Staff Record) system; the UK’s largest integrated HR and payroll system.

McKesson is the prime contractor for the NHS Electronic Staff Record, implementing an integrated pay and HR system for 1.3 million NHS staff.

McKesson says the acquisition will further strengthen its already robust team of HR and payroll professionals by an additional 40%. The staff will work across NHS organisations providing integral healthcare systems and HR and payroll service management.

Charmaine McDonald, UK managing director, McKesson, commented, “This acquisition will enable McKesson to unlock the potential of the ESR system by providing a bureau service for all NHS trusts. This, in turn, will allow us to deliver tangible service and efficiency improvements to our customers.”

McKesson has confirmed that all staff acquired from Supporta plc will be retained under TUPE legislation and all will remain in existing locations.

Charmaine McDonald concludes: "McKesson HR and Payroll Solutions will combine people, skills, solutions and knowledge to continue to deliver excellence at every level throughout the healthcare industry."

McKesson HR and Payroll Solutions is also looking to scale the business by focusing on customer service and investing in training and new automated tools to build on staff experience and boost productivity.

Supporta Payroll Services has been acquired by Supporta Services Limited, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Supporta plc.

Supporta plc is an AIM listed outsourcing company, established in 2004, specialising in the provision and management of care and professional services to public sector authorities and the private sector in the UK.
