Misys disposes of hospital IT businesses

UK stock market-listed software provider Misys Plc has announced that it will sell off its hospital IT activities in two disposals to refocus on the community sector.
Misys which operates principally to the US health market, but counts a number of UK hospitals as customers, says it will now focus on community and outpatient sectors, known in the US as ‘ambulatory care’.
The Diagnostic Information Business is a supplier of systems which automate the processes of hospital departments – such as labs and pathology departments – by managing and classifying large volumes of clinical data.
Misys will sell its diagnostic Information Business to Vista Equity Partners for £186m in cash. The diagnostics information business made a profit of £23m a turnover in the past year of £79m. The business is based in Tucson, Arizona and employs 750 people.
NHS trusts using Misys hospital systems include University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust, Warwickshire, which use Misys’ anatomic pathology system.
