60 Seconds Interview: Rich Mills
- 7 August 2007
Rich Mills is the IT operations manager for Devon PCT where he oversees the systems used by staff and deals with any problems that arise.
What’s the first thing you do when you get into the office?
Dock my laptop and make a cup of tea
Your favourite gadget at the moment?
I’m not really a gadget person, I don’t own any. No SatNav, no games console, nothing. I don’t even have my own PC at home. I do have a cow-shaped sandwich toaster that moos though. No, it’s not Bluetooth enabled.
What’s the best thing about your job?
The constantly moving goalposts!
Favourite book or song (or both!)?
Book – Any of the Flashman novels by George Macdonald Fraser;
Song – It changes everyday but today it’s Phoenix City by Roland Alfonso
Pet hate?
Supermarkets
Favourite website?
www.codalmighty.com
What annoys you?
Society’s obsession with fame and celebrity
In a perfect world, what would you be doing?
At the weekend I can wander down to the harbourside in Brixham with the kids and have a cup of tea and a bacon sandwich in the sun while they fish for crabs. That’s perfect enough for me. Okay, add a pint of real ale and then it’s perfect.
What’s caught your eye recently?
A collected hardback of the Silver Star comic series by the late Jack Kirby. This would greatly improve my life.
e-Health innovation that interests you at the moment?
It’s not very exciting but I’ve been waiting for the BT N3 Extended VPN product to become available for what seems like ages. Not particularly innovative but it will be very useful for GPs in our community.
