Capio partners with BridgeForward for integration

  • 21 August 2007

Independent healthcare provider Capio Healthcare UK has selected application integration specialist BridgeForward Software to provide it with application integration throughout its UK healthcare facilities.

In the UK Capio own and run a network of 22 private hospitals, 10 NHS Treatment Centres, Neurological centres and dedicated eye units.

The integration technology will allow Capio Healthcare to integrate its operations throughout the UK on a stand alone basis. Previously, Capio Healthcare UK’s applications were hosted in Sweden by its parent company, Capio Group.

Capio Healthcare UK is using BridgeForward to integrate its Cambio patient administration system and JDE financial systems.

BridgeForward is providing both the enabling integration engine – ClearSpan Server – and associated implementation services, replacing the SeeBeyond integration platform previously used by Capio.

BridgeForward says that it now provides application integration technology to 124 independent hospitals and treatment centres, representing almost 90% of all independent healthcare facilities in the UK.

Andrew Till, IT director of Capio Healthcare UK, said that BridgeForward was selected after a thorough review of commercial integration solutions available. "In the end, we were persuaded by BridgeForward’s extensive experience in healthcare application integration, the power and scalability of the ClearSpan product, and BridgeForward’s ability to mitigate risk.”

“We are delighted to have been selected by Capio Healthcare UK for this important, enterprise-wide project,” stated BridgeForward vice president, Gina Stradis.

In 2005 BridgeForward’s interface engine was selected for system-wide use by the 49 hospital BMI Healthcare Group, the largest private hospital organisation the UK.

More recently, Nuffield Hospitals used the integration engine to provide enterprise-wide application integration to all 40 of their hospitals, including integrating critical healthcare and administrative software applications including Picture Archiving and Communications Software and its Enterprise Master Patient Index.

Taken together, Capio, Nuffield and BMI total 124 independent hospitals and treatment centres, representing approximately 90% of the independent healthcare facilities in the UK.

Founded by the same team that created MicroScript Corporation, BridgeForward brings together the EAI pioneers who developed two of the most popular application integration products in healthcare: MicroScript Server and the award-winning e-Biz2000. Together these two products became the most installed integration technology in US and UK healthcare.
