iSoft add reporting tool to labs software

  • 24 September 2007

Users of iSoft’s i.Laboratory systems now have access to detailed management and pathology reports following the introduction of a new reporting tool.

The web-based module, called Rapid Analytics and developed by iSoft and FMI Business Solutions, will be made available to all of the 150 NHS trusts using iSoft’s i.Laboratory or i.Laboratory TP software.

Rapid Analytics will help users to extract data and run reports offline. Using OLAP (on-line analytical processing) for ad-hoc enquiries, users can also find trends and conduct historical comparisons. Users can also drill-down through the data for detailed analysis.

Isoft’s pathology products manager, George Philp, said: “Traditionally, managers and pathologists have avoided running reports because of the potential delays and the risks of slowing the laboratory system.

“Rapid Analytics provides flexible, ad-hoc reporting capabilities and the speed with which results are obtained will encourage staff to analyse services from a clinical and management perspective.”

FMI say the ability to generate reports quickly and in an easy to understand way will help trusts with their performance indicator measurements. Rapid Analytics also works with both Cognos and Business Objects reporting solutions.

Head of FMI group, Tony Capozzi, said: “Reports are available in seconds not hours, without slowing the live system. With a familiar and intuitive interface, the application is easy-to-use, giving managers and other non-pathology specialists the opportunity to examine, for example, costing and performance management data, with no need for extensive training in reporting and analysis."

He added: “Personalised dashboards can be created, to tailor the application to specific job functions so that users can see at a glance their specific key performance indicators."
