Adastra links with Map of Medicine
- 1 October 2007
Out-of-hours clinicians using the Adastra system can now access the Map of Medicine clinical reference tool directly from Adastra’s On-line Clinician module.
Adastra and Informa have completed a joint development project which enables clinicians working out of hours to have integrated access to the Map of Medicine.
Clinicians highlight the word or words within Adastra for which they want to search and select the appropriate option from the context sensitive menu.
The application then takes them directly into the Map of Medicine, either at the search page or, in the case of a recognised phrase, directly into the appropriate pathway.
The Map of Medicine pathways provide a quick reference source for clinicians or information to share with patients at the point of care.
Currently containing over 387 pathways – equivalent to more than 6000 printed pages – it provides information from a range of recognised international sources of clinical evidence and guidance that are systematically searched and reviewed by information specialists working with experienced clinicians.
These pathways are divided into 28 specialties, including clinical knowledge across the patient journey from diagnosis to treatment, providing a single resource across primary and secondary care settings.
Evidence is subject to expert review by a large network of external clinicians employed by public sector healthcare organisations.
Adastra’s medical director, Dr Alex Yeates, said: “Clinicians at all levels will welcome the interoperation between Adastra and Map of Medicine, and will recognise the valuable role it will play in helping them to deliver safe and effective clinical outcomes.”
Adastra say that further work is planned to enable the patient’s position on a map pathway to be recorded when the patient is referred onwards, along with other detail already passed using Adastra’s Agency Referral module.
