Trust business continuity solution launched

  • 25 October 2007

A business continuity solution to help trusts ensure that critical management reports are not interrupted by migrations from legacy systems to new NHS systems has been launched by data management specialist, Stalis.

According to the company, trusts have found that business continuity is a risk as they change systems in the move towards the new NHS Care Records Service (CRS).

To avoid this disruption, Stalis says, trusts have been faced with the prospect of buying three or even four different solutions to meet all their conversion needs for data extraction, cleansing and transformation, a historic patient data repository for non transferred patient data and a local data warehouse (LDW) to support all the critical reporting requirements.

Managing director, Christine Whitehouse, said Stalis had invested over three years of R&D in bringing its new solution to fruition.

“We now have a single modular solution that allows trusts to make one investment as part of their move to CRS such that the resources used in migration benefit the trust across their current and future reporting needs,” she said.

Fujitsu Business Services recently announced that the Stalis CareXML LDW would be used in the Fujitsu Business Continuity LDW solution for all trusts in the South of England.

In addition to preserving continuity and ensuring managers receive key reports, Stalis says the package greatly enhances reporting, providing a desktop dashboard which enables users to drill deeply into clinical and management data.

Technical director Peter Gamston explained: “Our latest addition to the CareXML portfolio allows trust information departments to provide a single source solution to all the users, including full dashboard capabilities for key performance indicators to support senior management and clinicians.

“Our vision is to extend the CareXML LDW so that trusts can undertake accurate and timely patient-based costing as the capabilities of CRS are rolled out."
