NHS Choices introduces BMI calculator

  • 7 February 2008

NHS Choices, the online ‘front door’ to the NHS, has a new Body Mass Index (BMI) calculator.

Based on NHS accredited information, the BMI calculator enables users to check their body mass index and quickly find out whether they are at risk of having diabetes.

NHS Choices is the online health magazine and information service, funded by the NHS and currently delivered by Dr Foster Intelligence, designed to give people the tools to make better, more informed choices about their treatments, health and wellbeing.

A spokesman for NHS Choices said the BMI tool “puts patients in the driving seat by giving them exactly the sort of reliable and dependable information they need to take control of their health at the click of a mouse."

The NHS Choices website includes more than 80,000 pages of content, including video, interactive tools, a daily news service and lifestyle features.

Users of the site can also check and compare basic hospital and doctor’s profiles and performance on-line.
