Siemens unveil new radiology solutions at ECR

  • 12 March 2008

Siemens Healthcare unveiled a new portal of IT software for radiologists and other hospital personnel who work with imaging staff, known as the syngo Portal, at this week’s European Congress of Radiologists.

Siemens have developed three different strands of the systems, one for radiologists, one for referring physicians and one for senior executives.

The solutions have been developed to offer role-based access to applications and information critical to their daily functions.

Syngo Portal Radiologist is intended to help radiologists with specific tasks, such as checking requests, reading images, and signing report functions, allowing the radiologists to organise their work according to the workflow step.

It will include integrated intelligence providing the user with access to the next logical application according to the workflow step he or she is carrying out.

For referrals, syngo Portal Referring Physician is also a role-based solution and supports the referring physician in communication with the radiology department. The portal enables physicians to schedule appointments directly from the ward or referring physician’s office.

Predefined request forms will also provide the option of recording clinical information beforehand, and thus allow radiologists to identify contraindications such as metal implants in MR patients.

A further system, designed for senior management, is also being unveiled by the German firm.

Syngo Portal Executive is designed especially for executives in hospitals and clinics. They can use this, for example, to simplify the planning of resources in the radiology department, or measure turnaround times for reports. The user interface can be individually customised to fit the requirements of the hospital or the radiology department – enabling proactive decision management and better strategic planning.

Siemens will also showcase the latest version of the syngo picture archiving and communication system (PACS), which will be able to integrate with a range of new syngo imaging solutions, providing enhanced computer-aided detection functionality.

A Siemens spokesperson said: “All portals contribute at various levels not only to optimization of workflows, but provide users with innovative applications from within their own work context. This is supplemented by new applications for computer aided diagnostics (CAD) such as the software syngo TrueD.”
