Ian Mackenzie is director of performance, information and facilities at Ashford & St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust.
One of his recent achievements was to help his trust set up SMS text messaging to remind patients of their appointments, using NHSmail.
What’s the first thing you do when you get into the office?
Try and find my reading glasses.
Your favourite gadget at the moment?
My new Apple iMac – some good came from being burgled!
What’s the best thing about your job?
Being able to make things happen.
Favourite book or song (or both!)?
Book: Almost anything by Michael Connelly
Song: No Woman, No Cry by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Pet hate?
Waiting. I have no patience.
Favourite website?
Robert Fripp’s Blog – endlessly fascinating
What annoys you?
Bureaucracy. People not making decisions.
In a perfect world, what would you be doing?
Searching in rock pools with my children.
What’s caught your eye recently?
A 1961 Fender Stratocaster – a bit too expensive at £15,000.
e-Health innovation that interests you at the moment?
Remote Access – the technology is very exciting but legislation is preventing clinicians from being able to use it fully.
