JAOtech and mgate partner on bedside terminals

Smart terminal specialist JAOtech has signed a new technology partnership with German hospital entertainment firm mgate of Saarbrücken.

The companies are working together to provide integrated hospital entertainment, communication and information services on a single infrastructure.

Using mgate’s software, patients can make telephone calls, watch TV, use the internet, play games, chat and see information about the hospital and their treatment on a single easy to use JAOtech terminal with a touch screen interface.

Clinicians can also access patient records at the patient’s bedside, and help patient do other processes like meal ordering.

Mgate has already successfully completed installations at six German hospitals, and will now be able to offer JAOtech UL60601 approved bedside terminals.

Christoph Koch, technical director of mgate, said: “We are seeing high demand from European hospitals for IT solutions that simultaneously enhance the patient experience and deliver operational efficiencies. The JAOtech terminals provide an outstanding hardware platform to take the integrated services offered by our software to the patient’s bedside.

“We are impressed by the quality and range of their products and the well-thought out design, as well as by JAOtech’s road map for evolving their solution to meet the continually changing needs of hospital staff and patients.”

The JAOtech terminals offered by mgate are the 15” Zivo, the 15” widescreen Jima and the Obie 17” smart terminal.

JAOtech patient entertainment terminals meet UL60601 by design, and feature anti-bacterial plastics based on Novaron, a sealed, wipe-down casing, and an innovative, zero-noise electronic design

Graham Grover, director of JAOtech, said: “mgate is a recognised leader in the delivery of IP based entertainment, communication and information solutions to bedsides to leading European hospitals and clinics. We are delighted that they have endorsed our technology by becoming a technology partner, and that they are now offering our terminals on new projects that they bid for.

“Together, we are able to provide the patients with bedside entertainment and communication facilities, and give medical staff instant access to information at the bedside where they need it the most.”
