Malta’s Mater Dei gets bedside entertainment
- 28 July 2008
Irish based patient entertainment specialist, Lincor Solutions, has implemented its bedside TV and clinical access system, MEDIVista at the Mater Dei hospital in Malta, in a deal worth over €1.6m.
The new system, delivered in partnership with Melita Cable, has been implemented across all 825 beds at the Mater Dei hospital and will enable patients to access digital TV and radio services, internet and VoIP telephony provided over the hospital’s existing infrastructure.
The monitors also provide information services to patients from a touch-screen computer as well as providing access for medical personnel to clinical applications such as electronic patient records and X-Ray images at the point of care – the patient bedside.
Melita will also be providing over 200 terminals in hospital common areas and up to 70 terminals in children wards for free. Children will be provided with adapters enabling them to utilise their game consoles over the TV-bedside unit.
On MEDIVista, patients can select from one of three TV packages with up to 100 digital TV channels including Melita Sports channels.
All three packages come with a fast 2Mb internet connection, telephony services and 60 radio channels.
The terminals in the hospital are equipped with features enabling viewers to pause, rewind and replay their favourite programmes at will.
“Hospital patients throughout Europe have come to expect the same level of digital communications as they would in their everyday lives. The installation at the new state-of-the-art Mater Dei Hospital in Malta, in conjunction with our partners, Melita Cable, will allow staff and patients a level of communication and interaction not previously seen in the region,” said Richard Cooke, chief executive of Lincor Solutions.
