This week will see the ICT BIO 2008 Conference in Brussels, 23-24 October, 2008.

The event promises to provide insight into existing and future prospects on integrative research for complex human diseases at European and international levels.

ICT BIO 2008 will examine how medical research is at the crossroads, with information and communications technology beginning to transform biomedical sciences.

The European Commission-backed event will focus on cutting edge topics such as computer modelling and simulation for improving human health, exmining how ICT, biology and medicine are converging.

The two day conference will provide an insight into existing and future prospects on integrative research for complex human diseases at European and international levels.

Objectives of the conference include communicating the opportunities and challenges of the virtual physiological human and integrative system biology. The event will provide the possibility for discussions on progress beyond the current state of the art and to promote international cooperation and networking.

The event will highlight the potential of multi-scale modelling and simulation for improving health. In healthcare this has the potential to contribute to disease prevention and early detection, patient safety and personalised medicine. It will also open new opportunities for industrial development

Among the areas to be examined will be an overview about the current activities in the EU, the US and other countries, and to examine opportunities for closer cooperation between EU and US funding agencies. The event will aim to promote international networking and co-operation.
