IB Solutions to develop database of Irish doctors

  • 26 November 2008

IB Solutions, an IBA Health Group company, has won a five-year contract to develop a system for the country’s 17,000 doctors to register membership online.

The €600,000 contract was awarded by the Medical Council of Ireland, the deal includes capital spend and support for five years.

The iB Solutions web-enabled development will support registration, retention, register maintenance, and online payments processing. The system will also feature a ‘my page’ facility for individual doctors.

Based on the company’s Integra suite of application software, the system will help the Medical Council to meet its requirements under Ireland’s Medical Practitioners Bill 2007, which aims to protect and inform the public in its dealings with medical practitioners.

The Bill introduced new measures for the registration and control of medical practitioners and has significantly changed the membership and functions of the Medical Council.

The new database will replace paper-based systems and allow applications to be entered online along with online payments and requests for a Certificate of Good Standing, which doctors need to continue practicing.

Jim McDermott, the Medical Council’s head of IT, said: “iB Solutions has a highly experienced project team with a track record of delivering similar systems and an in-depth knowledge of the public sector.”

Eamonn Morris, managing director of iB Solutions, said: “We have developed a reputation for delivering our projects in partnership with our customers’ on-time, within budget and to specification.”
