Basque health service implements ClearSpan
- 2 February 2009
The health service of the Basque region of Spain has implemented an Agfa Healthcare enterprise digital Picture Archive and Communications system, incorporating integration technology provided by BridgeForward.
BridgeForward Software, announced that Osakidetza, a public company belonging to the Basque Health Service, has gone live with BridgeForward’s integration engine, ClearSpan Server.
Implemented in partnership with Agfa HealthCare, ClearSpan Server is providing an integration solution between Osakidetza’s centralised information systems and the Agfa Radiology Information System (RIS), enabling digital x-ray exams to be accessed at all Osakidetza facilities throughout the region.
ClearSpan Server will support more than 2,000 physicians and 150 radiologists and increases Osakidetza’s ability to deliver more than 2 million radiology exams per year.
Other benefits of the Basque PACS project include a unique patient identification code, the prevention of unnecessary examinations, the elimination of duplication and error reduction.
Phase One of the project began last autumn, with the first hospital and primary care centre then going live in late 2008. The BridgeForward integration solution implemented in Phase One was undertaken by BridgeForward’s Professional Services Group.
Phase Two, which expands the solution to hospitals and satellite centers throughout the Basque Region is currently being implemented by Agfa HealthCare’s professional services organisation which has been trained in ClearSpan Server use.
"BridgeForward proved to us that they could implement a robust, cost-effective, enterprise wide integration solution to compliment our PACs roll-out to Osakidetza on time and within budget," stated Sergio Irayzoz Del Castillo, Agfa HealthCare Spain’s IT Manager. "They delivered."
John Moriarty, BridgeForward’s CEO, said: "ClearSpan Server was found to be perfect fit for the cost-effective, enterprise-wide integration deployment Osakidetza required."
