Asklepios signs RIS deal with medavis

  • 25 March 2009

Asklepios, Germany’s largest chain of private clinics, has singed a deal with radiology information system specialist medavis GmbH, to equip six Asklepios clinics in Hamburg with medavis’ radiology information system.

The switch to medavis RIS as the central radiology information system for the six Hamburg clinics will be carried out as part of the private health group’s ‘OneIT’ project for the standardisation of its entire IT infrastructure. The value of the contract with medavis was not disclosed.

The introduction of medavis RIS will begin in April at the Asklepios clinic Hamburg-Altona. The further clinics Hamburg-Nord, Barmbek, Harburg, Wandsbek and St Georg will be converted to medavis RIS over 18 months.

“The introduction of a central information system for radiology in Hamburg points the way for the entire Asklepios Group,” said Peter Oberreuter, spokesperson for Asklepios Kliniken Hamburg GmbH.

He said medavis offered a combination of integration capabilities, flexible workflow control and was user friendly.

One of the clinics included in the RIS conversion is the flagship Asklepios Klinik Barmbek, which functions as the international reference centre for the Asklepios Future Hospital (AFH) programme.

Under the AFH programme, Asklepios, in co-operation with partners such as Microsoft and Intel, is developing and testing innovative technical solutions for the hospitals of tomorrow using Barmbeck as a test bed and proving ground.

As previously reported by E-Health Europe Asklepios Group has already embarked on its successor “OneIT+” project, with initiatives such as linking all doctors together using video-conferencing.

The medavis RIS will replace the RIS systems from a number of sources, which were previously in use in the individual clinics. In addition, integration to the SAP i.s.h.med hospital information system and the Philips PACS will create a cross-hospital solution, providing key improvements in the transfer of data between the various clinic’s radiology departments.

Oberreuter said in a statement: “Our declared goal is the homogenisation of our IT landscape. For this purpose, we need a modern and flexible information system for our radiology, which is capable of fulfilling the requirements of networked operations at different locations. In this respect, we found the medavis RIS totally and entirely convincing.”

Medavis GmbH is a specialist provider of medical information systems for radiology. Its key product is medavis RIS, the workflow oriented radiology information system. Medavis systems are currently used by over 200 customers worldwide.
