Cambio wins Southern Denmark

The region of Southern Denmark has awarded a €30m contract to Swedish clinical software specialist Cambio to provide shared electronic records, using its Cosmic system.

When fully implemented some 22,000 doctors, nurses and administrative staff across Southern Denmark will use the Cosmic system.

Implementation of Cosmic will be carried out in stages. In the first phase, 2010-2011, the focus will be on expanding Hospital Sønderjylland’s existing Cosmic license to add another2,500 users. Odense University Hospital will then follow, with a further 2,000 users added. Cosmic will also be implemented for 3,000 users in Sydestjysk Hospital.

During the second phase, 2012-2013, Cosmic will be implemented for another 2,500 working within psychiatry within the region. The system will also be implemented at the Bält Hospital, the final hospital to be added.

The system is already used by 12,000 healthcare staff within the region at Odense University Hospital and Hospital Sønderjylland.

By implementing the Cambio system across the entire region, one of five that make up Denmark, healthcare professionals will have a access to a uniform system, supporting a single patient journey across the region.

“It is important that our IT systems communicate with one another and that the hospitals can share patient information, regardless of where the patient lives,” said Carl Holst, chairman of the regional council for Southern Denmark.

Head of the IT department Nils Lau Frederiksen added: “Cambio Cosmic will tie the region closer together, and secure a coherent and patient oriented health service.”

Frederiksen added: “Through integrations, communication between multiple clinical systems will be established and thus provide efficiency and collaboration between professionals. Implementing a joint patient journey will enable us to offer the highest level of healthcare.”

Cambio began working with the Southern Region of Denmark in 2004, initially working with the now defunct Funen council to implement Cambio at Odense University Hospital.

Tomas Morra Morrison, CEO of Cambio Healthcare Systems, said: “With a long-term approach and clear goal, the region of Southern Denmark is moving from one success to another in its endeavour to offer even better care to its residents via a uniform IT system, which will ensure effective and safe care procedures throughout the entire region.”

He added that the region of Southern Denmark is now Cambio’s largest single customer “which demonstrates that Cambio is continuing to successfully establish itself in international markets”.
