This special edition of the EHI industry round-up covers appointments made by major suppliers in the healthcare IT industry and some NHS bodies whose work impacts on it.

Dr Mark Ferrar joins GS1 UK board

GS1 UK, the global supply chain standards and solutions organisation, has appointed an executive from NHS Connecting for Health to its supervisory board representing the health industry. Dr Mark Ferrar, director of technical infrastructure at CfH, has joined the board to encourage the use of GS1 standards in the NHS and to support the Department of Health’s Coding for Success policy. CfH and GS1 UK have been partners since 2007.

Two non-executives join NHS Direct

Two new non-executive directors, Luisa Dillner of BMJ and Tim Heymann of Kingston Hospital, have been appointed to the board of NHS Direct. Dilner is head of new product development at the BMJ Group, where she has launched online products for doctors and consumers. Dr Heymann is a consultant physician at Kingston Hospital, and also developed Kingston Case Notes, an award-winning electronic patient record.

NHS Information Centre appoints clinical lead for doctors

Dr Andy Spencer has joined the NHS Information Centre as clinical lead for hospital doctors. Dr Spencer is a consultant paediatrician at University Hospital North Staffordshire NHS Trust and has a specialist interest in neonatology and paediatric renal medicine. Prior to taking up his role with The NHS IC, he was clinical director for the trust’s children’s department and lead clinician for the trust’s implementation of the electronic patient record.

New health leads for Concentra

Concentra, a UK-based business consulting and technology services company, has appointed a new head of healthcare services and an associate director to lead its healthcare and IT consultancy practice. Adrian Downing has joined the company from Nuffield Health, a customer of Concentra for four years. Dr Penny O’Hara, a former clinical director for BT, has joined the Concentra with 25 years of clinical and consulting experience with McKinsey, KPMG and Deloitte.

Accenture appoints director of medical imaging

Accenture has appointed Derek Danois as director of medical imaging for the health and public service operating unit in Europe, Africa and Latin America. Danois will be based in London take responsibility for growing Accenture’s medical imaging business in this area. Over the past ten years, his work has been focused on medical imaging services, most recently in his role as chief executive officer at the National Digital Medical Archive, Inc. in the USA, a company that manages over 100 million medical images across 30 states.

Mark Treleaven joins First DataBank

First DataBank, a provider of drug knowledge databases and active clinical decision support, has appointed Mark Treleaven as sales and marketing director. Treleaven has been involved in healthcare IT for more than 20 years, and was most recently strategic healthcare marketing manager for Microsoft UK.

Simon Manley becomes sales director, UK, for Nuance Healthcare solutions

Nuance Communications, the supplierof speech solutions, has announced the appointment of Simon Manley as sales director healthcare for the UK. He formerly worked for McKesson.

 

BearingPoint appoints director of health informatics

Pan-European management and technology consultancy, BearingPoint, has appointed Andy Bishop to lead its growing health informatics consultancy practice. Bishop joins the company from Ernst & Young, where he established its healthcare IT advisory practice. He has worked in the healthcare IT sector for 20 years and for a wide range of health and social care organisations.
