Med-e-Tel to explore global telemedicine

  • 8 April 2010

The eighth Med-e-Tel conference in Luxembourg next week will address global telemedicine and e-health initiatives.

The event will bring together e-health stakeholders from more than 50 countries and feature more than 150 presentations of successful business cases, research activities, pilot projects and panel discussions.

Stakeholders will be able to share and learn from the latest developments and research and launch potential business partnerships that address topics within the key areas such as telecardiology, m-health, clinical informatics and telesurgery.

The event, which will be held 14-16 April at the Luxexpo exhibition and congress centre, will be opened by the minister of health for Luxembourg, Mars Di Bartolomeo, with Yunkap Kwankam, executive director of The International Society for Telemedicine and e-health.

Other keynote speakers will include Gérard Comyn, former head of ICT for Health unit at the European Commission to provide an update on the Commission’s most recent activities.

And Tim Ellis from the UK Department of Health will discuss the lessons and results of the randomised control trial for telemedicine in the UK.

In addition to the main conference streams there will also be workshops including a course on clinical telemedicine presented by Dr Jan Von Overbeck, the chief medical officer at MEDGATE, the Swiss center for telemedicine.

The course will detail how clinical medicine works in the largest European telemedicine centre and the possibilities and risks it proposes.

Med-e-Tel 2010 is now an official event of the International Society for Telemedicine and e-health, International Federation of National Telemedicine and the ‘NGO in Official Relations’ with the World Health Organisation.
