NHS Haringey has deployed an electronic document management system from IT solution provider 6pm.
The 6pm PCT Electronic Document Management Solution (EDMS) has been deployed within adult services. Children’s services will follow, with the completed roll-out supporting 600 users.
The company said its solution had been developed specifically for community providers in partnership with several NHS trusts.
It converts paper clinical records into electronic images that can be stored within the a care record system and other clinical applications.
6pm said the solution also provides NHS Haringey with the facility for secure document collaboration between trusts, polyclinics and external agencies.
Andrew James, head of IT at NHS Haringey, said the deployment was part of the PCT’s plans to roll out a polysystem IT infrastructure to support collaboration between different clinical providers.
Nicholas Ib, head of performance and information at NHS Haringey, said the trust had selected EDMS on the basis of ‘best of breed’ software components and its security measures.
He added: “NHS Haringey views the 6pm EDMS as a key investment in their future IT technology to help meet the efficiency targets set for the trust within the next 24 months.”
6pm said its solution used enterprise-wide market leading products including EMC Documentum for enterprise content management and Kofax Capture scanning software.
Alan West-Robinson, chief executive officer of 6pm, said: “The complex security schema provided within EMC Documentum provides a set of comprehensive and flexible security services which is unrivalled in satisfying the demanding sensitivity requirements associated with patient information.”
