Agfa completes PACS at four Irish sites

  • 8 July 2010

Agfa HealthCare has completed the roll out of its IMPAX 6 Picture Archiving and Communications System and its Radiology Information Systems across four sites in Ireland.

The company has provided the systems to four of Alliance Medical’s sites, an independent provider of diagnostic imaging services, which has 11 dedicated sites across Ireland.

IMPAX 6 provides the hospitals with a web deployable image and information management system that streamlines workflow. When integrated with IMPAX RIS and reporting Solutions it can also provide a consolidated view and centralised management of patient images and information.

Ellen Leacy, project manager for the Alliance Medical said: "Agfa HealthCare was asked to provide a complete IT solution, from the network, to a fully integrated RIS/PACS system.

“Agfa HealthCare’s solutions were attractive from the start, as it was clear that these could be run over low cost broadband based connections as opposed to dedicated fibre.

Alliance Medical signed the deal with Agfa in February 2010, with the first site going live in June and the fourth site due to be complete over the next week.

The hospitals installed voice recognition technology and the company’s Mediweb solution, enabling electronic clinical referrals and results distribution to referrers over the web.

Agfa also partnered with Strencom, a cloud services company, to implement a broadband based secure network into the four Alliance Medical facilities, which connected them to the Strencom data centre.

In addition, Agfa will also provide a system administration service as an add-on to enable Alliance Medical to run the system without having to employ dedicated administrators in any of the sites.

Grant Witheridge, Agfa HealthCare’s managing director for UK and Ireland, said: "The key to implementing the project successfully was to utilise the latest in the available technology, providing not only the latest diagnostic imaging solutions, but also ensuring these were provided flexibly.

“To this end we deployed VM View Virtual Desktop’s’ to all RIS users with the required applications preconfigured making deployment and support quick and simple.

“Alliance Medical had a good idea of what they wanted, some of which we had not provided before, including automated results distribution via email, SMS appointment reminders through our RIS and automated completion of insurance claim forms, all of which we delivered as part of the overall solution."
