Phone pics allow prescription refills
- 3 February 2011
The US pharmacy chain Wallgreens has launched an app that allows customers to order prescription refills by taking a photo of the barcode on their pill bottle.
Wallgreens has launched the app for iPhones, Android and Blackberry phones. It enables users to renew prescriptions by taking a photo of the barcode on a pill bottle using a smartphone, or by keying in the prescription code.
By scanning and sending an image of the pill bottle users are promised express refills that will be ready for them to collect when they go into the store. Users are sent a text alert when the prescription is ready for collection.
Other features bundled into the app include the ability to locate the nearest clinic or pharmacy and retails services such as ordering photo prints directly from the phone.
