EHI can exclusively reveal that Kingsley Manning has been appointed chair of the new Health and Social Care Information Centre.

Manning, who has over 30 years health consulting and health informatics experience, including advising NHS trusts, health authorities and private healthcare companies on strategy and policy development, will take up his role on 3 June.

He will take over from Candy Morris, who has been the interim chair of the new HSCIC. The organisation is also seeking a new chief executive following the departure of Tim Straughan, head of the old NHS Information Centre.

Commenting on his appointment, Manning said in a statement that HSCIC had “a vital role to play as the key information and technology partner at the very heart of the health and social care system."

The statement added: “We must grasp this opportunity with both hands, building on HSCIC’s reputation for producing high quality information and promoting access to data, to deliver clear improvements in services.”

Manning, an industry veteran, is a former head of health at Tribal, now part of Capita; and was the founder and MD of health and information consultancy firm Newchurch.

Health secretary Jeremy Hunt said: “Kingsley brings a great wealth of experience and expertise and his leadership will be essential at such a crucial time for the new HSCIC.

“I am sure he will lead the HSCIC to become the leading centre of expertise and innovation in information management, right at the forefront of driving technological change in the NHS."
