Health Systems of the world, including Canada and United Kingdom are under great pressure. With an ageing population and advancements in medical treatments, the extra demands of looking after us as we all live longer is a heavy load to bear for clinical staff, and carries greater risks to patient. With such a strain on resources, technology has a core role to play in helping an overwhelmed and exhausted healthcare workforce, research also shows that the use of automated technology solutions has a significant impact on both efficiency and patient safety.
How to automatically include vitals signs in patient records and have a complete patient record?
More and more biomedical devices are used in our institutions, and ever more data has to be collected manually in order to ensure an adequately detailed patient record. Today, there are 3.7 million medical devices in use and if we take the US example, on average only 6 devices within some leading hospitals are connected to the EHR automatically. The result is that nurses have to painstakingly copy over Vitals/Obs information into the EHR manually and aside from the evident waste of resource sometimes retranscription errors can occur.
The solution is, of course, Medical Device Interoperability, and we would like to show you how we do it….
