Yorkshire LHCRE appoints new Senior Responsible Officer

The Yorkshire and Humber Shared Care Record has appointed a new Senior Responsible Officer (SRO).

Dr John Byrne is the executive medical director at Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust and also has a GP background.

In his new role, Dr Byrne will oversee the shared care record, which is one of the five Local Health and Care Record Exemplars (LHCREs).

He said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be leading this ambitious programme of work for our region.  For years I’ve been passionate about quality improvement and research, the success of Yorkshire & Humber Care Record is central to achieving this mission for the people we work with.

“One of the key areas I would like to drive forward is patients accessing and contributing to their own health and social care record, which is an integral part of the overall ambition of the programme.”

Dr Byrne is no stranger to the shared record and has already had a role in the programme, by helping to join up the region wide integration technology with the needs of health and social care staff.

Rob Webster, chair of Yorkshire & Humber Digital Care Board; CEO for South West Yorkshire Partnership Foundation Trust and CEO Lead for West Yorkshire and Harrogate Health and Care Partnership said, “I am delighted that John is taking up this role.

“He is a clinical leader and strong advocate for using technology to improve safety, patient experience and population outcomes. He joins a strong team with ambitions for improving health and care across Yorkshire & Humber.”

Each of the five pilots which are part of the NHS England’s LHCRE prpgramme will receive £7.5m of national money from NHS England to accelerate shared records development and adoption of tools like population health management. National funding will have to be locally matched.
