Digital Health’s go live roundup

Our latest roundup of NHS IT go lives includes a new mobile electronic prescribing and medicines administration system in Leicester, and Chesterfield Royal Hospital deploying a region-wide PACS.

Leicester General Hospital deploys mobile EPMA system

November saw Leicester General Hospital deploying a mobile electronic prescribing and medicines administration (EPMA) system which was powered by Nervecentre.

The new EPMA module has initially gone live on three renal wards with a wider roll-out planned to the rest of the trust over the coming months.

This latest deployment is part of the hospital’s EPR programme, which is a collaboration between clinical and technical teams at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and the Nervecentre software development team with the aim of building a mobile first digital patient record system.

Kettering General Hospital introduces virtual visit solution

In the same month, Digital Health also reported on Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust going live with a virtual visit solution.

The NHS Book a Virtual Visit app, developed by Made Tech, allows patients and visitors to connect when they are unable to be together physically due to Covid-19 restrictions in hospitals.

Since it was launched, the solution has helped facilitated more than 900 visits, across 25 wards, averaging calls of 50 minutes between patients and loved ones.

Leeds becomes the first to deploy imaging tech as part of regional network

We have also seen Leeds Teaching Hospitals becoming the first trust in the Northern Pathology Imaging Co-operative (NPIC) to deploy a picture archiving and communication system (PACS) which will allow pathology images to be viewed by clinicians from a range of devices.

It went live with the Sectra system in October with more trusts and hospitals in the NPIC expected to follow suit later this year and into 2021.

The programme is part of a £17m partnership between industry, the NHS and academia and funded by UK Research and Innovation and industry partners to connect pathology services across the region using technology.

Chesterfield Royal Hospital goes live with region-wide PACS system

Sticking with region-wide imagining systems – Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust became the sixth NHS trust in the East Midlands to go live with a PACS which will allow it to share patient images, scans and x-rays with other hospitals in the region.

Known as the PACS Portal, the cloud-based image sharing system can help ensure that critical decisions about a patient’s care are made quickly and safely.

The hospital joins five other members of the East Midlands Imaging Network (EMRAD) already using the system, which is powered by the GE Healthcare Cross Enterprise Reporting tool. They include Nottingham University Hospitals, Sherwood Forest Hospitals, Kettering General Hospital, Northampton General Hospital and United Lincolnshire Hospitals.
