Hertfordshire Partnership opts for Civica’s cloud-based prescribing
- 4 October 2021
Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust has turned to Civica for the provision of a new cloud-based prescription software to boost patient safety.
The new electronic prescribing and medicines administration (ePMA) platform will integrate with the trust’s existing electronic patient record (EPR) and pharmacy system to create a closed loop.
The software will enable clinicians to make the best possible prescribing decision for patients being treated across the trust.
Civica Prescribing will create a single, comprehensive overview of a patient’s current and historical record. The in-built, robust safety measures are designed to stop any potential errors in medication dosing.
Hakan Akozek, CIO at the trust, said: “Our vision is to work together with our service users, their families and carers to achieve the best possible outcomes for everyone who needs our care. Civica Prescribing will help our front-line staff operate more efficiently, reducing risk via safer prescribing and increasing safety for our service users.”
Up until now the trust’s prescribing and medicines information has all been done by hand. The trust was looking to implement an ePMA system that would work across all its services; integrate with the existing systems; and support its digital transformation programme.
Hertfordshire’s five year contract with Civica will help it achieve its aim to develop more patient-facing, self-management technology and improve data analytics. In the future it will link with the NHS Electronic Prescription Service, supporting the trust’s vision to improve interoperability between systems.
Steve Brain, executive director for health and care at Civica, added: “By joining up and digitalising health systems we can provide clinicians with more timely access to accurate information, helping them make the most informed decisions in the interests of their patients. We will support service change across HPFT to help improve health for all and provide patients with better access to their records and improved patient care.”
Civica have inked a number of similar deals in recent months, including one with Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust to implement the same software. It has also been awarded contracts to supply its cloud-based EDRMS to Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust and its Cito patient record software to Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.
