Following the deployment of a specialist outpatient scheduling system, Leeds Children’s Hospital has delivered more than 1,700 additional outpatient department clinics.

The Bookwise Solutions’ software was implemented back in February 2022, at Leeds Children’s Hospital, part of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

With the software, the hospital is able to monitor and manage room bookings in the outpatient department quickly and accurately. The digital solution is helping to ensure the hospital can maximise its resources and see as many people as possible in its outpatient department.

Suzanne Abrahams, general manager at the Leeds Children’s Hospital, said: “Our new system streamlines the process of booking rooms and clinics, and significantly reduces the time and resources that are wasted. It was beyond our expectations that a digital system could provide us with such big efficiency savings – considering that we are one of the largest acute trusts in Europe.

“Since February 2022, we have seen around one thousand more patients per month, which is fantastic. We’ve also been able to deliver 1,758 more outpatients clinics, and the average room utilisation jumped to 67%.”

Denise Williamson, managing director at BookWise Solutions, added: “We’ve been delighted to help Leeds Children’s Hospital digitise its outpatient department – efficiency is always important in hospitals and upgrading tasks like room booking using tech is a simple way to make big changes.”

Following the successful implementation at Leeds Children’s Hospital, the scheduling system has now been extended within outpatient departments across the wider trust.

It’s the latest digital implementation at Leeds Children’s Hospital in recent years, following on from the 2021 deployment of an ePAWs system for monitoring its patients, and height and weight e-forms within its electronic patient record, PPM+.
