UK digital cancer care platform Careology teams with Evolent Health

UK digital cancer care platform Careology has partnered with the US’s Evolent Health with the aim of delivering more coordinated, connected care pathways for US health plan patients.

The partnership between the public and private sector companies will bring together Careology’s ‘patient first’ digital solution with Evolent’s care navigation services.

Evolent works with more than 70 health plans — spanning approximately 40 million unique members — to improve the quality and affordability of care for cancer and other conditions.

It plans to integrate Careology into its navigation services for health plan clients, with a digital cancer care platform to launch by the end of 2024, and a national rollout planned for 2025.

The Careology platform is intended to connect and empowers patients with personalised information and provide them with access to intuitive tools  to help understand their diagnosis and treatment and manage symptoms and potential treatment side-effects.

By supporting cancer patients with navigation services to track symptoms, the platform is aimed at helping them avoid some of the inconvenience, stress and costs associated with avoidable and preventable hospital visits.

Paul Landau, founder and CEO of Careology, said: “Far too often, the experience of living with cancer is characterized by fear, frustration and fragmentation.

“Bringing together our complementary capabilities we believe will help deliver a better cancer care proposition to all constituencies in the US”.

He added: “Evolent and Careology share a mission to support people living and dealing with cancer, and Evolent’s excellent reputation, large customer base and comprehensive leadership in oncology specialty care make it the optimal partner to accelerate our entry into the US market.”

Dan McCarthy, president at Evolent, said: “With Careology’s best-in-class digital platform, we have the opportunity to deliver a mobile, connected and coordinated experience.

“We believe that when patients are more engaged and equipped to manage their health, the better their outcomes will be.”

As part of the partnership, Evolent’s McCarthy will join the Careology board.

The partnership follows a 2022 pilot of the Careology platform at Nuffield Health Derby Hospital, which was expanded to 12 Nuffield Health hospitals across the UK.
