Derby and Burton rolls out BadgerNet EPR for maternity services

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB) has rolled out the BadgerNet electronic patient record (EPR) and Badger Notes online portal in its maternity services.

The BadgerNet maternity system and Badger Notes online portal and app went live at the trust on Tuesday 18 June 2024, enabling patients to view their maternity records on a mobile phone, tablet or computer.

Previously, pregnant people were provided with a paper maternity booklet, but Badger Notes replaces this, allowing easier access and control of pregnancy notes.

The maternity system also enables users to view some test results, track weekly development of the pregnancy, add personal diary entries and photos of their growing bump, and access the trust’s full library of pregnancy leaflets and recommended information.

Nick Wilson, chief executive at System C, which owns BadgerNet, said: “With the use of BadgerNet, staff at UHDB will have secure access to all critical pregnancy information where and when it is needed, with auditing and reporting tools available to provide continuity of care.

“For those in maternity care, the user-friendly Badger Notes app will provide an improved patient experience with real time access to their personal maternity, child or neonatal records direct from their phone, providing support and reassurance during this important time.

“As a cloud solution, BadgerNet connects care across boundaries and provides a single pregnancy record link to all BadgerNet maternity and neonatal sites across the UK”.

A spokesperson for UHDB  said: “Following the successful implementation of BadgerNet, our new electronic patient record system in maternity, we are pleased to offer Badger Notes, a patient facing online system and app.

“This means those who are pregnant can access their maternity notes and advice and support online giving instant access to information which will improve the experience of those accessing our maternity services.”

UHDB say that if a person’s estimated due date is after 24 September 2024, they can speak to their midwife about transferring their handheld paper maternity book to the Badger Notes system.

For those whose estimated due date are before 24 September, Badger Notes will provide useful resources after their baby is born.

BadgerNet is owned by System C following its acquisition of Clevermed in February 2023.
