RHN goes live with PatientSource AI tool to detect patient deterioration

British EPR provider PatientSource has this month rolled out an AI tool that enables early detection of patient deterioration at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability (RHN).

A pilot began at the independent medical charity RHN in January 2023, using five years of data amassed in the PatientSource EPR at the hospital.

The MEMORI tool works by building on the National Early Warning Score (NEWS) through analysis of the current observations combined with a deep analysis of the patient’s historical data within the PatientSource EPR across an array of biomarkers, test results, and clinical notes.

This builds a personalised view of the patient, enabling early detection of patient deterioration, up to 48 hours earlier than the traditional NEWS system.

The tool went live,in the Draper’s Ward for patients with brain injuries, in June 2024 with the pilot expected to conclude in Autumn 2024.

Belfast Health and Social Care Trust goes live with digital record system

Belfast Health and Social Care Trust announced that it has gone live with the encompass digital record system, replacing paper processes with a single digital record for each patient.

The system, implemented on 6 June 2024, means staff will have immediate access to care records, whether patients or service users are in hospital or at home.

encompass is a Health and Social Care Northern Ireland wide initiative that will introduce an electronic care record for every person in Northern Ireland, underpinned by the Epic electronic patient record system.

Standard infusion pump software to go live at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital

Peter White, chief nursing information officer at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital Trust told Digital Health News about an ongoing project to create a standardised pediatric dataset for infusion pumps.

The trust aims go live with the standard infusion profiles in summer 2024, with integration work continuing to interface data from the pumps directly into Alder Hey’s Meditech EPR  as part of a separate workstream.

Global med tech firm, BD provides the pumps, which are used for the administration of medicines over a period of time longer than five minutes.

Kent Community Health sexual health service goes live with EPR

Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust’s sexual health service has implemented an EPR from specialist sexual health and HIV software provider, Inform Health.

The EPR went live in April 2024, following a three-month timeline for procurement, configuration, user acceptance testing and training.

Kent Community Health said that since implementation, the new clinic-based system has been helping to transform daily operations by supporting best clinical practice, improving patient access, increasing efficiency and giving enhanced visibility over performance.

The organisation is planning the launch of a patient-facing personal health record system in its sexual health service by the end of 2024, which will allow to patients create a secure online profile, and search for, book, cancel and amend appointments online.

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust goes live with CardMedic

Healthcare translation app CardMedic has been downloaded by nearly 400 members of staff at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust since its roll out in January 2024.

The app is designed to help deliver accessible and equitable care to non-English speaking patients by providing healthcare translation and interpreting support.

CardMedic, which features ready-made clinical interactions in more than 50 languages, has been launched to the whole trust following a year-long pilot in the maternity department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) between November 2022 and November 2023.
