NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly ICS restoring systems following IT outage
- 12 June 2024
NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Integrated Care System (ICS) has confirmed that its IT systems are “coming back online” following a network outage.
The ICS issued a statement on its website at 16.30 on 11 June 2024, saying that it was experiencing âsignificant IT issues across our hospitals and other NHS locationsâ.
It added that planned outpatient appointments and operations may need to be rescheduled, due to the outage, which it said was caused by a âlocal issueâ and not a cyber attack.
âBusiness continuity plans are in place and our clinical teams continue to provide patient care and treatment. We have identified the problem and are currently restoring systems,â the statement said.
The outage is understood to have affected Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust, and University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, as well as GP surgeries and community providers.
At 18.00 on 11 June, a spokesperson for NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly ICS issued a second statement, which stated that ” IT systems are coming back online after a network outage earlier today”.
âThe work to restore these will continue throughout this evening and overnight.
âOutpatient appointments, planned operations and procedures will be going ahead tomorrow and patients should come to the hospital or health centre as planned.
âAnyone who has had an appointment postponed today will be contacted directly to agree a new date,” the spokesperson said.
They added that GP surgeries will be open and people who have GP appointments should continue to attend, as planned.
The latest waiting and opening times for minor injury units are available online.
The outage follows the cancellation of operations and blood transfusions in south east London due to a cyber attack on pathology service provider Synnovis on 3 June 2024.
