North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust has announced that it plans to roll out an electronic patient record (EPR) system in early 2025.

The trust, which provides hospital and community care for around half a million people, has chosen Alcidion’s Miya Precision platform and is finalising what is anticipated to be a 10-year contract.

Dr Adrian Clements, executive medical director at North Cumbria, said that choosing the platform was “a significant advancement” in modernising the trust’s technological offering to provide a better service and experience for our patients, and increasing its digital maturity.

“Over the last few months, many of us have spent a great amount of time evaluating the various EPR systems in order to reach the correct conclusion to help us implement the best possible one for our situation.

“I feel assured and confident that selecting Alcidion will allow us to implement an EPR that enables high-quality patient care, improves clinical safety and saves our clinicians valuable time,” Dr Clements said.

The new EPR is aimed to enable mobile working, streamline patient flow and support decision-making processes at the trust, while providing clinicians with real-time access to unified patient records.

Kate Quirke, managing director for Alcidion, said she was excited to build upon the existing relationship with North Cumbria.

“Having been the supplier of the trust’s patient administration system for more than eight years, we are now able to continue our relationship by bringing the full Miya Precision capabilities, alongside our partner applications, to deliver a comprehensive electronic patient record, accessible across North Cumbria.

“Alcidion’s integrated, modular EPR solution allows North Cumbria to develop their existing digital footprint, protecting the trust’s existing investments and allowing healthcare professionals to realise the benefits of additional clinical capabilities, such as electronic noting and integrated observations, through integration with a number of existing systems.

“At a time when the health service is under enormous pressure, we see this increased speed to deliver value as a real opportunity for our customers”.

North Cumbria is the second trust in the north east of England, alongside South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, to choose Alcidion’s Miya Precision, with others in the region, including East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, using technology provided by the company.

Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust also announced in April 2024 that it had implemented Miya Precision.

Meanwhile, North Cumbria announced in April 2024 that it had launched an e-rostering system in partnership with Patchwork Health to improve strategic planning of its departmental rotas.
