- 13 December 2024
- Patients Know Best (PKB) and Wellola have announced a partnership to expand their services in mental health and community care
- Wellola's Portasana communication platform will be integrated into the PKB patient record platform, enabling appointment booking and care coordination via a unified interface
- The integration will initially support community and mental health booking features
Patients Know Best (PKB) is partnering with digital health company Wellola to boost their combined offerings in mental health and community care.
The partnership will see Wellola’s patient communication platform, Portasana, integrated into PKB’s electronic patient record system, enabling organisations to combine automated appointment booking with access to health records.
The integration will initially support community and mental health booking features, enabling patients to access their health data, share information, co-create care plans and engage with their care teams through the existing PKB interface. The functionality will also be available through the NHS App.
Mohammad Al-Ubaydl, chief executive at PKB, said: “We are delighted to expand our partnership programme by integrating with Wellola.
“Our complementary capabilities provide a more comprehensive offer for mental health organisations where automated booking is a priority.
“We have a shared commitment to prioritising enhancing user experience for all and look forward to deepening our collaboration with the addition of other specialist features in the future.”
The companies said the integration of Portasana with the PKB’s platform would enable healthcare service providers to deliver “comprehensive, patient-centred care through a streamlined, unified platform” and the ability to consolidate data from different healthcare providers into a single record will support coordination amongst care providers involved in a service user’s journey.
Sonia Neary, chief executive at Wellola, said: “At Wellola, our mission is to provide healthcare organisations with the tools they need to offer comprehensive, supported self-management for their service users.
“Partnering with Patients Know Best, whom we hold in high regard and whose vision we fully align with, allows us to extend our digital care capabilities to a broader audience, ensuring a more integrated experience for patients as they engage with health services.”
In April 2024, Wellola closed a €2.2 million (£1.8m) funding round, bringing the company’s total funding to €4m (£3.3m).
Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust announced plans to deploy Portasana in January 2023, as part of an effort to improve patient communications and reduce wait list backlogs.
