In healthcare environments, lack of mobile signal is not merely an inconvenience – it affects patient experience and operational continuity. Recognising the importance of seamless mobile coverage, the New Hospital Programme now includes a recommendation for future hospitals to include an indoor mobile coverage solution as part of their digital foundations.

While the thick walls and materials used in hospital construction block mobile signal from entering from outdoors, the distributed antenna system (DAS) deployed by Freshwave brings it into the building with a guaranteed quality of service.

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust decided to assure mobile connectivity at the purpose-built Midland Metropolitan University Hospital from day one.

Freshwave worked closely with the Midland Met team and their construction contractor to ensure smooth delivery throughout this complex deployment.

The 5G-capable DAS is designed to ensure everyone, regardless of network, can use their mobile phones with no issues.

“This cellular system will unlock endless possibilities for Midland Met,” said Mark Taylor, the trust’s director of IT and digital. “Not only will patients be able to keep in touch with loved ones, but mobile connectivity supports clinical and non-clinical staff to resolve flow barriers essential to daily planning, as well as maintaining business continuity. Freshwave have been a great partner throughout and made the process very simple for us.”
