Health and Social Care Northern Ireland (HSCNI) has been working to transform the healthcare landscape of Northern Ireland by implementing a unified Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system across all hospitals in the region. The ambitious project, known as “encompass”, seeks to streamline healthcare applications and ensure seamless information sharing for 1.5 million patients.
Integration partner Integrella has been instrumental to the success of the project, ensuring smooth connectivity and data flows between the new Epic system and existing healthcare applications.
HSCNI has now successfully rolled out this solution in several key trusts, including Southern Eastern Health and Social Care Trust, Belfast Trust and Northern Trust, with the remaining trusts due to go live in 2025. The rollout will make Northern Ireland the first region in the UK to have all hospitals running on the same EPR system.
Integrella’s expertise and proven track record in large scale, multi-faceted integration projects in healthcare made them the ideal integration partner for HSCNI. A specialist in the Rhapsody integration platform and Epic’s Bridges integration tool, Integrella offered a structured 18-step approach – treating each application as a standalone project within the overall programme.
The comprehensive and highly tailored solution provided by Integrella ensured that Epic seamlessly interfaced with over 30 critical healthcare applications, including imaging and oncology systems, without disrupting clinical workflows.
