Movers and Shakers news roundup

The new year has ushered in several new appointments within the health sector including a significant shake-up of the executive team at Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and two appointments at NHS mental health partner, psyomics. 


Leading microbiologist and infection control expert at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Dr David Partridge, has been appointed as president of the British Infection Association. Partridge will serve a two-year term at the association, following his two-year tenure as vice president.


Dr Christian Baber is the new chief portfolio officer at not-for-profit The Pistoia Alliance. Within his new role, Baber will launch the project pipeline for 2024, which supports the development of projects aiming to boost the efficiency and sustainability of R&D.


Highland Marketing’s advisory board is welcoming Dr Jane Brightman. Brightman will be bringing her perspective on health and social care digitisation to the board of the PR, marketing and content agency. After a two-year spell as assistant director of programmes at NHS England, Brightman recently joined Skills for Care as director of workforce strategy.


Dr Pierre Moulin has been appointed as chief scientific officer for Deciphex, where he will help shape the future of pathology artificial intelligence (AI).


NHS Supply Chain has announced Sheila Doyle as a non-executive director to Supply Chain Coordination Ltd.’s Board. Doyle specialises in delivering transformational change through innovative digital solutions.


Two new appointments have been made at NHS mental health partner psyomics. Dr Melinda Rees has been named as the permanent chief executive officer, after a successful interim period. In addition, Dr Michelle Tempest is joining the organisation as non-executive director, to guide the commercial development of Censeo.


Shauna McMahon is starting the new year with a new position as chief information officer and board member at Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.


Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital NHS Foundation Trust’s new medical director is Mr Manoj Kuduvalli. Kuduvalli has spent 20+ years at the trust as a specialist registrar in cardiothoracic surgery, including being made associate medical director in 2017.


Matt Connor is taking up a joint role, with a new position as chief digital officer for Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, alongside his existing role as CIO at Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust.


Tracy Bullock has announced her retirement as chief executive of University Hospitals of North Midlands Trust. Following five years in the post, Bullock has taken ill-health retirement. She will remain in the role until the end of June.


Ahead of a CQC report which is expected to be critical of its leadership, Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has shaken up its executive team. Chief nurse Maurya Cushlow will retire in April, and medical director Andy Welch will step down from the board and be replaced by deputy medical director Michael Wright. Chief operating officer, Martin Wilson, is moving to a strategic role in the organisation.

New interim roles for managing director and director of patient and staff experience have been filled by Rob Harrison and Annie Laverty respectively. A new director of performance post is being considered. Sir Jim Mackey took over the position of chief executive at the trust at the start of the year.
