Summer Schools 2024 conference programme published

The programme for Digital Health Summer Schools 2024 has been published, featuring national keynotes, NHS CEOs, digital leadership plenary sessions and international case studies.

Summer Schools, now in its 11th year, is a two-day education and networking event dedicated to chief clinical information officers (CCIOs), chief information officers (CIOs), and chief nursing information officers (CNIOs), together with current and aspiring digital health leaders.

The event is taking place on 18 -19 July 2024 at Durham University, exclusively for members of Digital Health Networks, the UK’s largest health IT community.

This year’s conference programme tackles the big challenges in digital health across key themes of productivity, integrated care, digital workforce, patient outcomes, EPRs, open platforms, essential business skills, and clinical safety.

Sir Jim Mackey CEO and Shauna McMahon CIO of The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS FT will open with a joint keynote, sharing their experiences of regional and national digital challenges and the ongoing work by the trust to digitise the patient experience.

Next, a session will explore the long-term productivity challenges for the NHS and the different approaches being used to overcome them. This is followed by a panel discussion about improving patient outcomes through digital.

In the afternoon delegates will breakout into digital masterclasses covering topics including mobile-first strategies, interoperability, rapid EPR adoption, digital flow, and a quest to save the NHS inspired by Dungeons and Dragons.

Delivered by sponsors of the Networks, the sessions are designed to offer delegates practical insights to augment their organisations’ digital programmes.

A series of sessions focusing on the development of leadership roles for CCIOs, CIOs, CNIOs, midwifery, AHPs, ICS and CAOs is followed by updates and interactive panel discussion from the Birmingham Declaration, which launched at Summer Schools 2023.

The Digital Health Awards concludes the day, with winners revealed for CCIO of the Year, CIO of the Year, CNIO of the Year, Rising Star Award, and Outstanding Team (new for 2024) followed by a networking dinner.

Day two kicks off with international keynote Dr Jordi Piera Jiménez, director of digital strategy at Catalan Health Services.

Dr Piera Jiménez will share his insights and experience on how Catalonia has successfully pioneered the implementation of openEHR at scale.

John Quinn, national CIO and Sue Jacques, CEO at County Durham & Darlington NHS FT will take the stage next, to explore work being done at regional and national levels to address the challenges impacting digital.

A session from the Shuri Network follows with founder and chair Dr Shera Chok exploring how to influence stakeholders of commercial and digital channels to ensure diversity is included in discussions.

The event is supported by Networks sponsors: AlcidionAlteraCereCoreDell TechnologiesImprivataInsource, Intel, Intersystems, Nuance, and Salesforce.

Summer Schools promises two-days of CPD-accredited content, education, networking, and best practice exchange, plus a unique opportunity to learn from digital health leaders.
