Outdated systems were holding back progress at Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust. The existing infrastructure, based around data centres, was inflexible, hard to scale and expensive. The network was averaging a P1 outage – the most serious type – once or twice a week. Clinicians told the trust’s digital team they were “in desperate need” of a strategy that could connect 3,000 staff and allow them to innovate and improve outcomes for patients.
Virgin Media O2 Business worked closely with the trust’s digital team to investigate the options. Instead of painting over the cracks with upgrades, the trust’s digital team made the bold and brave decision to move to the cloud.
The shift to a cloud-based SD-WAN approach meant a full digital transformation across the trust’s system and beyond, including a roll-out expansion to the integrated care system and more than 150 GP surgeries.

The cloud-based connectivity solution has delivered a tenfold improvement in network speed and resilience, with P1 outages reduced to just one a year and significant cost savings. The move to the cloud has freed up clinicians’ time and boosted patient care.
