CfH approaches 2,000th deployment

  • 29 September 2005

Connecting for Health’s (CfH) latest deployment figures indicate that almost 2,000 systems had been deployed by the programme as of the beginning of September.

The figure represents an increase of over 800 deployments since the beginning of August, reaching a grand total of 1,864.

However, a closer reading of the figures reveals that almost all of the increase is accounted for by counting in further 925 deployments of the stand alone, ‘naked’ web-based referral system for Choose and Book, taking the total deployments of this web system to 1,428. The majority of these extra deployments occurred in the South.

Another web-based system Map of Medicine accounts for 51 deployments.

The other main system bolstering CfH’s numbers are deployments of LPS-hosted alternative GP solutions – from InPractice Systems and the Phoenix Partnership which have now reached 218.

No alternative GP systems have been deployed at all so far in either the North West or South of England clusters.

Progress has been slow though on deploying new and replacement Patient Administration Systems (PAS), as opposed to upgrades to existing PAS systems to enable it to operate with the integrated national electronic patient booking system.

No new PAS system deployments are claimed since the last set of figures at the beginning of August, leaving the total at 10 across England. CSC in the North West though are said to have increased the number of ‘Community PAS’ (separate to regular PAS) systems deployed by one to 14.

Similarly no new Picture Archiving Communications and Storage (PACS) systems have been deployed since the last set of reporting figures, with the total remaining at three, one in London and two in the South.

Still missing from the deployment figures are any signs of hospital electronic patient record systems being deployed, the rich local clinical systems that the programme was meant by now to have been delivering through its local service providers.

In specialist clinical systems progress appears steady, with 2 new child health systems deployed in the North East, taking the total to 20. No child health systems have been deployed yet in either the North West or South.

For Single Assessment Process (SAP) systems, the Eastern cluster has deployed one more taking the total up by one to 22. No SAP systems have been deployed yet in London, the North West or the South.

A smattering of other specialist and departmental systems are also indicated, such as two A&E systems and a radiology system in the Eastern cluster; a pathology system in London; an A&E system, plus an ambulance and radiology system in the North East; and three theatre systems and a mental health system in the North West.
