Agfa delivers PACS to the private sector

Agfa Healthcare have announced two new contracts with private hospital chains to install their Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) software, IMPAX 6.2.
The Belgian-based image-specialists have confirmed that they will be delivering the PACS system along with other medical imaging systems to both the Nuffield Hospitals group and the Classic Hospitals group.
Nuffield Hospitals will have IMPAX 6.2 installed along with a new Radiology Information System, Computed Radiography systems and the Initiate Master Patient Index in all 40 of its hospitals.
The work is expected to take one year and the transition is expected to be completed by December.
Nuffield’s PACS project manager and technical consultant, Dr Mohammed Hussein, said: “Following a comprehensive tender with several UK PACS providers the decision to go with Agfa HealthCare was based on the company’s ability to deliver the project to a tight time-frame and to provide the level of integration required in a complex multi-site organisation.”
Installation has commenced at Classic Hospital’s ten sites, who along with the IMPAX 6.2 system will be receiving Agfa’s computerised radiology system, CR-35X, for use with both general and mammography digital services.
The installation is due to be completed in March and will ensure the hospitals are connected to the NHS, allowing for the eventual electronic transfer of images between the public and private sector.
Classic Hospital’s chief executive officer, David Gray, said: “Three important considerations in choosing Agfa HealthCare solutions were the state-of-the-art web-based solutions, the value for money, and the benefit of connectivity with the NHS. This arrangement will ensure that we can service public patients.”
Commenting on the deals, Agfa HealthCare’s healthcare director, Adrian Stevens said: “These partnerships further endorse Agfa’s commitment to the private sector in the UK, building upon the deployment of PACS in the UK under the ‘Connecting for Health’ NHS IT program.”
