Danish telecare specialist, RTX Healthcare, is to launch a new wireless telehealth monitor, which it claims is interoperable with any clinical information system.

The system works by asking users a series of questions as well as measuring vital signs. The device has also been customised to provide patients with a questionnaire to answer each day to check wellbeing. This can be done on the screen of the device, or through audio files – customised to any language.

An RTX spokesperson told E-Health Europe: “The RTX3370 Telehealth Monitor is an interactive and simple to use device, designed specifically to improve the way of providing healthcare to patients outside hospitals suffering from chronic diseases such as heart failure, COPD and diabetes.

“It engages the patients through personalised daily interactions and questionnaires while collecting vital signs and transmitting the information directly into a database using regular telephone lines.”

The company recently received 510k market clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration for its use in the US and say it has also passed pilots in Denmark to prove its resilience.

Bjarne Flou, CEO of RTX Healthcare said: “Our telehealth monitor is extremely simple and intuitive to use for elderly patients. Furthermore, our business model is quite unique in the market, as we sell the RTX3370 telehealth monitor for a one-off fee and not like most others as an integrated product with their own proprietary clinical information back-end solution.

“An open standard approach to telehealth will ensure seamless interoperability with third-party solutions and will help reduce these costs while at the same time ensuring cheaper, faster and more reliable healthcare solutions for patients worldwide.”

RTX Healthcare recently joined the Continua Health Alliance, and are working with them to promote independence through establishing a system of interoperable personal telehealth solutions that empower organisations to better manage health and wellness.

RTX said: “Due to a very flexible JavaScript interpreter the RTX3370 Telehealth Monitor is easily adapted to the health service providers specific handling of different diseases. The handling of data and selection of what to display is defined in these scripts.

“The Telehealth Monitor collects vital signs from peripheral devices and subjective patient information from patient questionnaires and transmits the data directly to the disease management company’s own clinical information system. “

The list of peripheral devices certified to be used with the Telehealth Monitor includes scales, blood pressure monitors, blood glucose meters, peak flow meters and SpO2 meters from major medical device manufacturers.

RTX say interest from global suppliers has been high and the device will be a noticeable addition to the telehealth market.
