St Luke’s Hospital, Oxford installs Agfa PACS

St. Luke’s Hospital, based in Headington, Oxford has recently installed Agfa HealthCare’s Web 1000 PACS solution, helping to improve both workflow and patient care. The solution was acquired by the private orthopaedic clinic situated within the main hospital at St Luke’s.

Devon IT collaborate with Gemalto for tighter security

Gemalto specialists in digital security, and Devon IT, a provider of thin client terminals, have partnered to increase patient information security and clinician efficiency within healthcare facilities. Healthcare providers can now use Gemalto .NET cards to securely log on and begin or resume work at any Devon IT thin client workstation in seconds. The solution helps healthcare organizations increase productivity, reduce IT support costs and comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.

Sussex HIS partner with Pink Elephant for training alliance

The Sussex Health Informatics Service have collaborated with Pink Elephant, IT service management specialists, to form a new IT service management training alliance. The two groups have partnered to offer new IT Infrastructure Library courses to any organisation in the region of Sussex and the surrounding areas.

Lambeth PCT use SMS for flu jab reminders

GPs at Lambeth PCT have become the first to use iPlato’s mobile phone text messaging service to remind patients to come in for their flu vaccinations. Nine GP practices have used the Patient Care Messaging system to send text message invitations to patients for their annual flu immunisation. The initiative aims to increase immunisation amongst ‘at risk’ patients whilst streamlining service delivery.

NHS launches ‘world’s first’ technology adoption hub

The NHS has formed a new National Technology Adoption Hub, based at the Central Manchester and Manchester Children’s University Hospital Trust. The hub is said to be the first such technology adoption hub in the world, according to the NHS and is aimed at helping the service better implement new cost-effective, life-saving technologies.

Citrix launch new monitoring software

Citrix Systems has announced the launch of SmartAuditor, a new feature of the Citrix Presentation Server that helps enterprise customers monitor, record and play back specific application sessions as part of their ongoing risk management and regulatory compliance measures. By incorporating user activity auditing as a core property of a company’s existing application delivery infrastructure, SmartAuditor makes it easy for customers to demonstrate that employees are meeting established guidelines for information access, transaction integrity and intellectual property protection.

Acquisitions

Ascribe acquires Scorpio

Health IT firm Ascribe has acquired Scorpio Information Systems, a supplier of clinical information management systems to the NHS. Scorpio has developed over 30 clinical modules for hospital departments and patient care; these include endoscopy reporting, maternity, eye-unit casualty and oncology clinics, which are in use at 12 NHS hospitals.

Ascribe and Microsoft, have signed a sponsorship agreement to support a healthcare conference to be held in London on 6 November. The conference, “Knowledge-driven Health Care Solutions: Improving Patient Outcomes and Service Delivery” is being organised by Neil Stewart Associates and will be held at the Royal College of Physicians.
