Perot to help implement Meditech at Rotherham

  • 17 June 2009

US health software firm Meditech has announced that Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust has selected its 6.0 Health Care Information System (HCIS) as its primary software provider.

Perot Systems will provide consultancy services in implementing the software at the Foundation Trust.

E-Health Insider first reported in March that Rotherham had selected Meditech to provide it with a new electronic patient record system outside the NHS National Programme for IT.

The Foundation Trust has contracted with FileTek UK Ltd, Meditech’s prime contractor in the UK to deliver the system. In addition, Meditech’s corporate associate, Perot Systems, has also been chosen by FileTek UK Ltd to provide consulting services.

Perot will provide consulting services, including application implementation, clinical transformation, and infrastructure support.

Planning for phase I of Rotherham’s HCIS implementation will begin in June, with final go-live projected for spring 2010.

Meditech reports that it currently has 12 NHS customers including Burton Hospital NHS Trust, one of the few acute trusts in England with e-prescribing in use.

Meditech’s 6.0 platform is said to feature a graphically rich look and feel and be optimised to take advantage of the latest advanced clinical application features. Meditech says Rotherham is its fifteenth UK customer, and one of the few NHS Trust hospitals to do a breakaway procurement from England’s National Programme for IT.

"We’re excited about this sale for many reasons," said Howard Messing, president and COO of Meditech. "It’s our first 6.0 sale to a new account overseas and it’s a 700-bed hospital known for providing the highest quality care to a large patient population.

Messing added: “Furthermore, it’s a chance for Meditech to closely collaborate with FileTek and Perot Systems on a major initiative for all three companies."

Founded 40 years ago Meditech reported total revenues of almost $400m last year, and has over 2,200 active hospital sites throughout the US, Canada and the UK.
