Carestream win Dutch data archiving deal

  • 30 July 2009

Carestream Health has won an e-Health Managed Services (eMS) agreement to provide remote storage of diagnostic images for the Maasstad Ziekenhuis Hospital in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

the company declined to comment on the value of the contract, citing commercial confidentiality.

The five year agreement will include the migration of more than 70 terabytes of legacy DICOM (digital imaging and communications in medicine) and non-DICOM data.

The new data centre will serve as a picture achieving communication system (PACS) neutral remote archive with additional archiving for around 180,000 new studies generated anually by the Maasstad facility.

Carestream says its remote archive architecture is based on a grid infrastructure that links to any PACS, modality and radiology information system. The data is securely archived and enables remote access by authorised users.

Tjeerd Canrinus, IT manager at Maasstad Ziekenhuis, said: “We selected Carestream Health to migrate and manage our large volumes of data as they were ahead of their competitors in leveraging an eMS service, in particular with their technical configuration and expertise.”

Carestream currently manage more than 10 million imaging studies worldwide, representing more than 500 terabytes of data.. They operate eight data centres in five countries to service healthcare providers throughout Europe and North America.

The eight data centres are in: US, Italy, France, Netherlands & Finland & Scotland.

Patrick Koch, Carestream’s worldwide business director, e-Health managed services, said: “Outsourcing clinical data management to a service provider allows multiple healthcare facilities to leverage and share a common data centre platform and pay only a fraction of the total cost based on their own utilization.”

“Our e-Health Managed Services offering also equips healthcare systems with a smooth and easy way of selectively and securely sharing information among multiple locations within their enterprise.”
