Belgian hospital implements Agfa’s Orbis

  • 13 September 2010

Ziekenhuis Oost-Limburg Hospital in Belgium has signed a deal with Agfa Healthcare to implement its Orbis care solution across all three of its sites.

The hospital, which is part of the Eastern Limburg hospital group, will implement the nursing management system to provide nursing documentation, planning of nursing activities and support for organisational tasks.

It will replace the hospital’s current paper based system and will fully integrate with Agfa’s electronic medical record including prescription solutions for medication, lab test and radiology exams.

Bart Claes, ICT manager, at Ziekenhuis Oost Limburg, said: "After being given an extensive demonstration on the system’s capabilities, it was clear that Orbis was the solution of choice for ZOL.

“We look forward to replacing our existing and rather complex paper-based order system with an efficient, streamlined and effective solution that will benefit both staff, clinicians and patients by enabling us to work more quickly, efficiently and effectively."

Agfa HealthCare’s Orbis clinical information system provides the complete availability of patients’ histories, including all images and data in real time.

It is installed in over 800 care facilities in Germany, France and Belgium with more than 500,000 daily users.

Koen Van Damme, business unit manager ORBIS, Agfa HealthCare, said: “The installation of ORBIS at ZOL is an important milestone in the roll-out of one of Europe’s leading HIS/CIS solutions.

“Our proven solution is currently being used by over half a million medical specialists and care providers and is the basis for enabling hospitals to integrate their information flows, align work processes and boost overall efficiencies. We look forward to a fruitful co-operation with ZOL Genk today and in the future.”
