Luton and Dunstable Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has announced that it will be using Microsoft’s Vergence single sign-on and context management system.

It will be rolled out to the trust’s main hospital, so clinicians can enter their ID and password once to gain access to any application they are permitted to use. The aim is to reduce the number of passwords that staff have to remember.

Vergence’s Fast User Switching should also cut the time it takes to log-on to a few seconds, while its context management will sync information about individual patients from different systems.

Sab Raza, IT project manager, said the trust’s decision to invest in the system had been influenced by seeing it in action at Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital.

“The improvements to their hospital operations and the advanced level of care provided as a result exceeded our expectations,” she said.

Microsoft acquired Sentillion, which developed Vergence, in February 2010. Since then, the company has developed additional functionality for both Vergence and its sister product, expreSSO, and expanded their distribution to the Asia Pacific region.
