Omers Private Equity has bought Civica for £390m. The group, which is part of a Canadian pension fund, bought the company from 3i, which invested in the company in 2008.

Civica’s clinical information system, Paris, is used in a number of community and mental health NHS trusts.

According to the EHI Intelligence NHS Trust Database, Paris is one of the more widely used systems, and it has been picking up new business as trusts make decisions about their future IT, following a period of reorganisation.

Paris is deployed at Hertfordhsire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust, and the Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

It is set to be implemented at Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, which was originally slated as the mental health ‘early adopter’ of the Lorenzo ‘strategic’ system amongst others.

A statement on the sale says OPE “will support the existing Civica management team in building on growth opportunities."

The statement adds: “Civica fits OPE’s selective acquisition criteria, as a market leader with a proven track record in an industry with considerable long term growth potential and high levels of recurring revenues."

Civica has 2,000 employees and more than 60% of them are based in the UK.

Civica chief executive Simon Downing said this was a positive development to support the company’s continued growth for the benefit of customers, employees and other stakeholders.

“There is no change to our trading companies as we carry on business as normal led by the existing management team, and we remain committed to our strategy and to the long term development of Civica,” he said.
